The GPS antenna of your radar detector enables several useful features.
Automatic False Alert Lockouts
If your detector encounters X or K band false alerts, the Auto Learn feature will begin to mark those locations as false alerts after picking up the same frequency in the same general area two or three times. The alerts will still show up greyed-out on your detector but will not make noise or indicate with arrows (if present on your model.)
NOTE Auto Learn will not learn the locations of Ka band or Laser alerts.
Manual Alert Lockouts
You can manually lock X and K band alerts on your detector if you already know they are false and you do not want to be alerted to them again. To lock those out, press the MUTE button on either your SmartCord or directly on your detector to initially mute the alert. If you're connected to Drive Smarter, press a second time to fully lock out the alert. If you're not connected to Drive Smarter, press a third time to confirm the lockout.
Automatic Speed Sensitivity
You can set your detector to vary the sensitivity of the alerts based on the speed of the vehicle. Use the SEN button to change between Auto, AutoNoX, and AutoLoK. Each will respect your Band settings and enable you to receive reduced alerts at lower speeds, and increased alerts at higher speeds.
NOTE It is recommended that you use Auto sensitivity only for urban or mixed urban/rural driving. If you will be driving primarily rurally and away from cities, or on the Highway for longer periods, such as traveling between towns or traveling out of state, the full-sensitivity Highway setting should be preferred.
Defender Database Alerts
If you have a Defender Database subscription, you can download the locations of red-light cameras, speed cameras, and speed traps that are known in our database. Your detector's GPS will then alert you when you are approaching these locations. Defender Database updates are offered weekly, on Mondays.
Location Marking
If you'd like to be reminded of a certain location when you approach it, you can use the MRK button to set a marker that is stored in your detector and will alert you when you approach that area in the future. You can read more about this feature in our Location Marking Guide.
Over Speed Alert
Your detector can alert you if you've gone over a certain speed and caution you to slow down. This is governor can be set to as low as 20 MPH, as high as 160 MPH, or turned off entirely if you do not wish to be alerted that you're travelling over a certain speed.
Cruise Alert
When travelling below a set speed, you can set your detector to beep twice rather than give you a full alert with chirps and tones. This is useful for when you're going slower and would like a quieter reminder.
Speed Display
Your detector can also use its GPS antenna to determine the speed that your vehicle is going. This is shown on the detector's display. If you do not wish to be shown the Speed Display, you can disable this in your settings and you will be shown the voltage of the current power connection instead.
