Compatible Cameras
If you have one of the following cameras, you can view the footage of the camera from either the Drive Smarter app or the Drive Smarter website by logging in and choosing Remote Security.
SC400D
SC250R
SC220C
SC110 / SC120
No other cameras are capable of Remote View.
Requirements to use Remote View
The camera needs steady power and internet connectivity to be available for Remote View at all times, which means you need to ensure that the setup is correct so that the camera can communicate with the Drive Smarter system to stream the footage. Read on for requirements and suggestions.
Power Considerations
In order to be able to access the camera, the camera must be powered on at all times that you'd like to be able to access the footage. If the camera is powered down, it will not be available for Remote Viewing.
While Driving
To view the camera(s) while the vehicle is in motion, check that the camera powers on with the vehicle and that your driver knows not to power down the camera
Always-on power can also be used, which is helpful for making sure that the camera is available whether or not someone is in the vehicle
While Parked
To view the camera(s) while the vehicle is parked, check that the camera has unswitched power that does not follow the ignition of the vehicle
When in Standby mode, the camera will continue to consume power from the battery until one of the following conditions is met:
- The vehicle is moved and the camera returns to normal recording functionality
- The camera's power shutdown timers turn off the camera fully
- The battery runs down if the timers aren't set and nothing prevents the camera from shutting down
Mobile Data & Wi-Fi Considerations
In order to be able to transmit the footage back to Drive Smarter, the camera needs to be given the credentials for a nearby mobile hotspot or Wi-Fi network that has access to the internet.
This will use your device's internet service plan. The camera is not capable of connecting to the internet independently, it must have a connection via a second device that does have its own internet access.
Mobile hotspots and stationary Wi-Fi hotspots are both usable, however keep in mind that the camera can only connect to one at a time and must be given the credentials each time you wish to switch, so the camera will not be able to connect to both without being given the credentials. If you set it for a stationary hotspot and drive outside of the range (~300ft / 90m for most Wi-Fi hotspots) the connection will drop as the camera cannot reach the servers.
It is important to understand that most hotspots built into vehicles turn off when the vehicle does; for maximum flexibility, use a mobile hotspot with an independent or internal battery supply.
While Driving
To view the camera(s) while the vehicle is in motion, you'll need to give the camera the credentials of a mobile hotspot that will be traveling with the vehicle.
- Hotspots built into the vehicle are the most common, however you can use mobile hotspot points from Cellular service providers.
- We do not support using your phone as a mobile hotspot; however, it may be useful for that function.
While Parked
To view the camera(s) while the vehicle is parked, ensure that the camera is connected to either a mobile hotspot that's located in or near the vehicle and is powered on at all times, or connect it to a stationary Wi-Fi hotspot that is always powered on.
